Basics in Sustainable Tourism

Introduction

Sustainable tourism is tourism development that avoids damage to the environment, economy and cultures of the locations where it takes place. The aim of sustainable tourism is to ensure that development is a positive experience for local people; tourism companies; and tourists themselves. But despite this optimistic objective, sustainable tourism is still not widely understood.

This foundation training course is for anyone who is working in the tourism industry and who is responsible for "CSR" (Corporate Social Responsibility) or "Sustainability". This one-day course will provide an introduction to the issues and challenges of sustainable tourism, covering case studies and practical tips to take back to work.

The areas explored include:

  1. Managing your environmental footprint
  2. Consumer issues
  3. Labour issues
  4. Fair operating practices (avoiding bribery and corruption)
  5. Management processes
  6. Human rights
  7. Community involvement and development
  8. Sustainability reporting and communication

This course is suitable for anyone in a managerial position or for those responsible for communicating the organisation's CSR performance.

The content will be peppered with interesting case studies and examples from the tourism sector and the course instructors aim to make the day as interactive and practical as possible.

If you are keen to attend this program or find out more information for your organisation, email adelyn@tmsacademy.com . We will be happy to assist you.
